Princess Power
Netflix Animation & Atomic Cartoons
As Art Director for the Netflix Original series based on the bestselling book series Princesses Wear Pants, I was brought on to the show early in development to adapt the visual style of the children’s book into a high end CG animated series.
This is the initial concept I did to show how I wanted to visually translate the series from children’s book to screen.
Each princess is from a different “fruitdom” inspired by a real life place in our world. For each girl’s cultural identity, I worked with the creatives and EPs to select the four coastal cities of origin and researched their art and culture to identify key motifs and colors to incorporate into each girls’ fruit symbols.

Hair and hair texture were integral in the development of each fruitdom and the show’s identity. Here are some examples of the different hair types, textures, and styles we designed and integrated with Atomic’s first show with groom. I’m extremely proud of the representation and authenticity the team brought to each character.
